Vantage Copy Trading allows investors to automatically copy the trades of experienced traders in real time. Users can browse different profiles, review their performance and risk information, and choose strategies that match their preferences.
Vantage also allows experienced traders to become Signal Providers and earn through its profit-sharing model. In this Vantage Copy Trading review, we’ll look at how the platform works, its main features, and its pros and cons.
What is Vantage Copy Trading?
Vantage Copy Trading is a service that allows users to automatically copy the trades of other traders. The platform has two main participants, which include Copiers and Signal Providers. Vantage Copy Trading currently has over 810,000 Total Copiers and over 109,000 Total Signal Providers. Signal Providers share their trading strategies, while Copiers select traders and automatically replicate their trades.
The process is fairly straightforward. Copiers can browse available traders and review information about their performance, returns, risk levels, and other trading statistics before deciding who to follow. Vantage provides several ranking categories to help Copiers compare available strategies. These include best overall strategies, highest return, highest win rate, lowest risk, and lowest drawdown.
Once a copier starts following a signal provider, their trades are automatically replicated in the copier’s account (proportionally or according to the copier’s chosen settings).
How to Start Copy Trading on Vantage
Getting started with Vantage Copy Trading is relatively straightforward.
Step 1: Register and Open a Copy Trading Account
To get started, register with Vantage. During registration, you can enter a referral code. Use our Vantage referral code WELCOMEVANTAGE to get our exclusive trading materials, including an interview with Singapore trader Chew Wei Xiang and an 18 page guide pack. Make sure to type the code in capital letters, otherwise it may not be applied.
Once registered, open a Copy Trading account. We also recommend opening a regular live account at the same time, as withdrawals are made from a live account. To withdraw your profits, you simply transfer them from your Copy Trading account to your live account and withdraw from there. Copy Trading accounts support multiple currencies, although the options available depend on your region and account type. You can fund your account using bank transfers, credit and debit cards, and select cryptocurrencies, or by transferring funds from another Vantage account. You can start copy trading with as little as $50.
Copy trading does not guarantee success. Past performance of others is not indicative of future results.
Your capital is at risk. Leveraged products may not be suitable for everyone.
Step 2: Choose a Trader
Once the account is funded, users can browse the available signal providers and their strategies. As mentioned, Vantage provides trader profiles and performance information to help Copiers compare strategies. It is important to look beyond returns when selecting a trader. Risk level, drawdown, trading history, and the strategy's overall performance can also provide useful information.
Step 3: Start Copying
After selecting a Signal Provider, the Copier can start following the trader. The platform will then automatically replicate the trader's positions. Copiers can follow multiple signal providers at the same time and they can also stop copying a trader whenever they choose. Additionally, copiers can start or stop copying even when the market is closed. However, open positions can only be closed once the market is open. Until then, the position will show a Pending Close status.
Vantage Copy Trading Fees
Vantage does not charge management or subscription fees for participating in Copy Trading. However, Copiers still pay the normal trading costs associated with their positions, including spreads and commission fees where applicable. Signal providers also take a share of the profits they generate for you. Each provider sets their own rate, from 0% up to a maximum of 50%, and the rate is shown on their profile before you start copying.
Depending on the provider, profit share is settled daily, weekly or monthly. For example, if you make $1,000 in new profit copying a provider with a 20% profit share, $200 goes to the provider and you keep $800. At the maximum rate of 50%, you would keep only $500.
A provider with slightly lower returns but a much lower profit share can therefore leave you with more money, so always compare rates before copying. Vantage calculates profit share using a High Water Mark model. This means you only pay profit share on new gains above your previous highest profit level. For example, if your copied strategy reaches $200 in profit, drops to $100, and then climbs back to $250, you only pay profit share on the final $50. You do not pay again for simply recovering earlier losses.
Pros of Vantage Copy Trading
- Low Minimum to Start: Users can start copy trading from just $50, giving investors a relatively low barrier to entry.
- Wide Range of Strategies: Vantage provides access to multiple traders and strategies across CFD markets such as Forex, Shares, Commodities, Indices, and Cryptocurrencies.
- Detailed Strategy Information: Copiers can review trader profiles, returns, risk levels, drawdown, win rates, and other performance information before choosing a strategy.
- Multiple Ranking Options: The platform provides rankings for overall strategies, highest returns, highest win rate, lowest risk, and lowest drawdown. This makes it easier to compare traders according to different performance measures.
- No Management or Subscription Fees: Vantage does not charge management or subscription fees for Copy Trading, although normal spreads and transaction fees may still apply.
- Flexible Copying: Copiers can follow multiple Signal Providers and can stop copying a trader whenever they choose.
Cons of Vantage Copy Trading
- Trading Risk Remains: Copying another trader does not guarantee profits. If the strategy being copied loses money, the Copier can also suffer losses.
- Profit Share Can Be High: Signal providers can charge up to 50% of your profits. Always compare rates before copying, as a provider with slightly lower returns but a much lower profit share can leave you with more money.
- Past Performance Is Not a Guarantee: High returns, win rates, or a low historical drawdown do not guarantee that a strategy will continue to perform in the same way.
- Limited Direct Control Over Trades: Copiers automatically follow another trader's positions. While they can configure risk controls and close positions, the underlying trading decisions are made by the Signal Providers.
The Credibility of Vantage
Before choosing a broker, it is important to consider its regulatory status and overall credibility. Vantage Group operates under the supervision of several financial authorities worldwide. These include the ASIC, the FSCA in South Africa, and the FSC in Mauritius. Vantage is also a member of the Financial Commission, an independent organisation that helps resolve disputes in the forex market. Its Compensation Fund can cover eligible judgements of up to €20,000 per client, subject to the applicable terms and conditions.
Vantage also receives generally positive feedback from its customers online. On Trustpilot, the broker has a 4.4-star rating out of 5 based on more than 15,000 reviews. While customer reviews can provide useful insight into the user experience, traders should still conduct their own due diligence and make sure the broker's services meet their individual needs and preferences.
Closing Remarks
Vantage copy trading provides a straightforward way for users to automatically follow the trades of other traders. The platform supports copy trading from as little as $50 and gives users access to multiple strategies. Its transparent leaderboards, High Water Mark profit-sharing model, and multi-market coverage make it an appealing choice for many users.
However, like any investment platform, it is essential to approach Vantage Copy Trading with caution. Copy Trading does not remove the risks associated with trading. Remember, past performance is not indicative of future performance. A trader who has had a winning streak can also suffer massive losses. Users should carefully evaluate strategy providers, configure strict stop-loss rules, and practice proper risk management.
Copy trading does not amount to investment advice. When you copy another trader you take on the same market risk, past performance is no guarantee of future results, and a large share of retail accounts lose money. Only invest what you can afford to lose.
