Market Cap

Market cap is the total value the market is worth. Take the total supply of coins, multiply it by the current price of a chosen cryptocurrency and you get the market cap.

Generally speaking, we have 5 main categories to which we sort out cryptocurrencies:

  • Large-cap: Cryptocurrencies with a market cap over $10 billion, which are basically the top 3 cryptocurrencies (BTC, ETH, XRP)
  • Mid-cap: Cryptocurrencies with a market cap between $2 billion and $10 billion, currently the next 5 cryptocurrencies after the large-cap cryptocurrencies
  • Small-cap: Cryptocurrencies with a market cap between $300 million to $2 billion
  • Micro-cap: Cryptocurrencies with a market cap between $50 million to $300 million
  • Nano-cap: Cryptocurrencies with a market cap below $50 million
